The port of Haifa company said last week that container movements for the six months period January – June 2005, compared to the same period last year, shows an increase of 0.9%.
In TEU terms the port handled TEU 553,858 in the first six months compared to TEU 548,395 last year ( an increase of TEU 5463 ).
In June the port handled a record number of containers - TEU 108,133 compared to TEU 101,759 in June last year, an increase of 6.3%. the last record was recorded in July 2003, TEU 105,424.
The port director general Mr. Amos Uzani said recently in an interview to the IPORT magazine that he would be highly satisfied if the port ends 2005 with same result as 2004.
He emphasized, however, that the years 2006 – 2008 would be the period in which the port will have to reach it full potential and increase its container movements.
