Port of Haifa wishes to increase cooperation with main Greek ports

Mr. David Hermesh Chairman of the port of Haifa met last week a Greek delegation headed by Professor Ioannis (John) Tzoannos. Secretary General, Hellenic Ministry of Mercantile Marine, Mr. Kostas Zinnovis the Greek counsel in Haifa and Mr. Ilias Grivanis, Greek's commercial attachי to Israel.
 
Mr. David Hermesh presented to the guests the latest developments in the port of Haifa and expressed his wish to increase cooperation between the port of Haifa and the main Greek ports. Professor Tzoannos noted that the Greek ports were independent and the port of Haifa could develop mutual business relations with the ports by establishing direct contact with them.
 
Professor Tzoannos has the governmental responsibility for the Hellenic merchant marine which ranks first among European Union Member States, owning about 50% of total Union fleet.
 
Hellenic Shipping today, including all Hellenic owned ships under foreign flag, is the world leader with a fleet of 3.246 ships of all types (over 1000 grit) totaling 75.156.763 gross tons, which covers the 16% of the world capacity.
 
On the other hand, Hellenic flagged ships only total 8% of the world tonnage, which ranks Greece in the third place among the leading shipping countries world-wide.
