Ashdod Port: drivers staged wildcat strike

Six of Ashdod Port's drivers were on a one-day strike last Thursday, at the order of the port's managers' workers committee.

The six port drivers who carry out internal trips, unloading cars from Roll-on/roll-off vessels to storage areas, are supposed to unload cars from a ro-ro ship that was due to anchor at the port on Saturday night.

The port's workers committee says that the strike was to protest alleged conduct by Ashdod Port acting ceo Yitzhak Blumenthal. In a statement issued by the workers committee, it noted that he requested a particular driver for internal trips at the port, which disrupted the drivers' work schedules and forced the port to outsource an outside contractor at a high cost.

The Ashdod Port management said in response that "the Ashdod Port's managers workers committee staged labor disruptions by the drivers in an attempt to encroach on issues that are the purview of management. The company's management will not allow the workers committee to continue to try and encroach on issues related to management's responsibility."
