Haifa Port workers called a wildcat strike last Tuesday morning, in protest against the Government plan to build new ports in Haifa and Ashdod.

The Haifa Port workers committee decided to strike following the decision to offer a minority shareholding in government companies including the Haifa port Company.

The port workers committee also commented that port employees are outraged by the State's promotion of the construction of new, privately-owned ports, yet they are prevented from conducting negotiations that deal with their own future employment and the development of already existing ports.

Entry to the port has been jammed up, as trucks were not being allowed entry to unload. Haifa Port management decided to immediately turn to the Haifa District Labor Court to obtain a back-to-work order.

Port workers returned to work on Wednesday morning. Port workers returned to work on Wednesday.
