LIBERIA's flag, VLCS (Very Large Container Ships) "MSC Chicago" becomes largest vessel to call at Port of Haifa.

The Ship has also become the biggest container ship ever to sail in Israeli waters.

The TEU 9,200 containership, MSC Chicago, IMO number 9290555, built 2005 by

Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries' yard in Geoje, South Korea, called at Haifa at the end of last week as part of Mediterranean Shipping Company weekly Golden Gate Service (GGS) between the US East Coast and Asia via the Suez Canal.

Mediterranean Shipping Co. added a port call at Haifa in Israel last October on both legs of its Golden Gate Service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Suez Canal.

MSC deployed 13 vessels with capacities of 9,200 20-foot-equivalent units on the following port rotation: Ningbo, Shanghai, Chiwan, Yantian, Singapore, Haifa, New York, Norfolk, Baltimore, Savannah, Charleston, Freeport, Norfolk, Haifa, Colombo, Singapore, Chiwan, Hong Kong and back to Ningbo.
