PM Netanyahu: Port reforms now, are essential for economy

PM Netanyahu addressed Port reforms during last Sunday government weekly meeting.

It is understood that Prime Minister Netanyahu recently gave the go-ahead to transport minister Katz’s plan to establish two new, private ports. These reforms have tremendous economic implications, as 90% of Israeli imports and exports go through the three ports, and that includes just about every single product in common use by the population."

It is understood that the Transportation Ministry will present a plan for implementing new reforms at Israel’s seaports within two months.

The transportation minister is expected to publish tenders within the next two months to build the first port, either in Haifa or Ashdod, which he expects will be completed within five years.

The estimated cost of the port will be NIS 1.1 billion (US$308 million).

A final decision will be made by Katz and Finance Minister Yair Lapid after which an international tender to operate the facility will be published.
