Protesters attempt to disrupt ZIM in Oakland

Two shifts of longshoremen, members of the International Long shore and Warehouse Union, agreed not to cross the picket line
 
Three hundreds demonstrators, condemning Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, picketed at the Port of Oakland last Sunday trying to prevent an Israeli container ship from being unloaded at the port.
 
Reports in the media said pickets succeeded last Sunday morning in convincing longshoremen at the Port of Oakland not to cross a picket line to work at berths 57-59 at a terminal operated by SSA.
 
According to unconfirmed reports two shifts of longshoremen, members of the ILWU (International Long shore and Warehouse Union), agreed not to cross the picket line, leaving nobody to unload the vessel.
 
The demonstrators first gathered before dawn at Berth 58, where a container ship operated by Israel's Zim shipping line was scheduled to dock Sunday, first in the morning then in the afternoon, protesters said.
 
Israel formally announced on Sunday it would ease its blockade of Gaza, allowing more goods to enter the impoverished area. Israel said it would expand operations at the land crossings already operating to enable processing of "a significantly greater volume of goods" and "the expansion of economic activity."
