In 2007 IPC invested some NIS20 million in upgrading Eilat port facilities and NIS7 million were allocated in next year's budget to upgrade the port security infrastructure

Yiftah Ron-Tal, Chairman of Israel Ports Development & Assets Company Ltd. (IPC), said last week that the government should consider to bring forward Eilat port privatization, in order to allow the port to play a better role in Israel's foreign trade.
 
In a statement issued by Ron Tal following a visit to the port he said that the port has significant economic and strategic importanceto the state and that the government should connect the port by rail to the country's railway system.
 
IPC is responsible for the development of Israel’s three commercial seaports in Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat and for providing them with the necessary infrastructure which will allow them to efficiently and competitively handle Israel’s international maritime trade.
