State-run Shipping Corporation of India announced the inauguration of a Mediterranean container liner service, linking the Indian subcontinent including Sri Lanka and major Mediterranean ports.
The weekly India-Mediterranean Service, known as I Med, will deploy a total of six vessels, each with capacities between 3,000 and 3,500 20-foot equivalent units, starting Aug. 26 with the sailing of M/V SCI TRUST.
Tiran Shipping Agencies 1997 Ltd local port agent in Israel for Shipping Corporation of India noted that the new weekly service will increase the available container capacity by six time over and above the present available container capacity.
Tiran Shipping also noted that the transit time from Mundra /Nahava Sheva to Ashdod / Haifa will be 16 days and return voyage will offer 16 days transit time.
Port rotation will be:
Colombo – Nahava Sheva – Mundra – Port Said – Barcelona – Genoa – Port Said – Colombo.
