The Director General of the Ministry of Transport added that serious professional dialogue must take place among all parties in Israel to prevent labor unrest at the ports

Gideon Siterman, Director General of the Ministry of Transport, outlined before the participants of the port2port conference, Israel's transport master plan for the next ten years.

Siterman noted that at present, ships crossing the Suez Canal sail over 6,400 km from West Europe to Kuwait or nearby states whereas alternatively the cargo could be unloaded at Haifa and transported just under 900 km by truck from Haifa to its final destination.

Siterman noted that Israel cannot ignore such facts and must look for solutions to offer alternative routings to cargoes going in and out of the region.

Israel, according to Siterman, must invest a great deal of thought to find ways and means to handle cargo efficiently for the benefit of the parties involved. He added that serious professional dialogue must take place among all parties to prevent labor unrest at the ports
