According to the Suez Canal Authority, the number of Israeli flagged ships crossing the canal in the first half of 2011 dropped 66.7%

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) released last week data showing 66.7% drop in number of Israeli flagged ships crossing the canal in the first half of 2011.

According to official report published by the Authority only three Israeli flagged ships crossed the canal during the first six months of 2011 carrying 5,000 tons of cargo, compared to nine vessels and 52,000 tons in the corresponding period last year.

The SCA noted that Israel's national carrier Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. avoids, due to security reasons, flying Israeli flag and uses, instead, Liberian, Panama & Marshal island flags.
