Data published by the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety, Shipping and Ports Authority ( S&PA) show that during January 2011, TEU 174,000 moved through the port of Haifa and Ashdod. Each port handled TEU 87,000.
Both, Haifa Port Ltd. and Ashdod port Ltd. handled TEU 89,000 inbound containers and TEU 85,000 outbound containers. In tonnage terms the two ports handled 1.745 million tons of containerized cargo. Haifa Port handled 968,000 tons and Ashdod port handled 776,000 tons.
During January both Mediterranean ports handled 3.151 million tons of cargo. Haifa Port Ltd. handled 1.5 million tons whereas Ashdod handled 1.4 million tons. Port of Eilat handled 119,000 tons and Israel Shipyards Ltd handled 82,000 tons.
During January18,785 motor vehicles were handled. 10,266 in Ashdod, 8,499 in Eilat and 20 in Haifa.
