Nakash Brothers together with Mr. Eli Tiles, former director general of Negev Star Ltd., and Thailand-based Regional Container Lines (RCL), a company engaged in international container vessel operations, will inaugurate a container service from the Far East to Eilat via Colombo, Sri lanka.
RCL currently owns and operates a fleet of 43 vessels with sizes ranging between 500 TEUs to 2732 TEUs, with a fleet of 79,854 TEUs, covering more than 100 destinations in 26 countries located in Asia, Australasia and the Middle East. Its core business is in the carriage Carrier owned containers (or COC) within a service network that is fully Asia centric.
The service will begin in April with two container vessels with a capacity of TEU1,000 each , calling Eilat every 8 days. The service which will be provided through RCL Colombo hub, will offer fast transit times as well as attractive freight rates to the Israeli trading community.
In an interview made last week Tiles noted that containers imported to Israel will be transported by road to Nahal Zin rail head from where they will be moved northward through Israel's railway network. Exported containers will be transported by rail to Nahal Zin rail head from where they will be transported by road to Eilat.
