Mr. Oded Tira, President of the Israeli Manufacturers Association called Zim line to refrain from using the port as their transshipment hub, until the port overcome its current difficulties.
In a letter to Dr. Yoram Zeba, Director General of Zim, Mr. Tira said that the port of Haifa was unable to properly serve the Israeli importing as well as exporting communities.
Mr. Tira noted that the congestion at the port was due to the overflow of incoming containers and emphasized that some of the current difficulties could be directly attributed to the fact that Zim used the port as it's main transshipment port.
Further, Mr. Tira said that many industries were on the brink of collapse due to the breakdown of their supply chain and the long delays at the port. Raw materials for most industries were, according to Tira, delayed over and above the acceptable time framework .
Zim's transshipment cargo, according to Tira, had literally blocked the port of Haifa which , in turn, was unable to move containers within a reasonable period of time.
