Meir Sheetrit, Transport Minister, appointed last week a special investigation team to examine the circumstances of the collision on September 29 between an Israeli container ship, "Zim Asia" and a Japanese fishing vessel in which seven Japanese fisherman were killed.

The special investigation team is headed by Captain Alex Gerson. The other two members are attorney Galit Haim Horev and Captain Magid, who had already taken testimony from the crew of the Israeli vessel.

Spokesman for the Ministry said that the team would submit its findings to Sheetrit and the director of the Israel Shipping and Ports Administration, Aryeh Rona, no later than October 26.

The spokesman added that the Japanese authorities had not yet handed over their findings (satellite photographs and paint samples from the ships' hulls) about the circumstances of the collision which are vital to the Israeli investigation, to the Israel Shipping and Ports Administration.
