Transportation Minister Meir Sheetrit decided last week to appoint former director of the port of Haifa Mr. Mendi Zaltsman as manager of the port company, on behalf of the ministry.
Zaltsman will be responsible for regulatory observance and coordination of the port's activities with the Ministry. In a press release, Sheetrit said that he made the decision based on Zaltsman's abilities, knowledge and vast experience in port management.
Zaltsman was Sheetrit's candidate for the post of chief executive officer of the port of Haifa, however, finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu managed to appoint his candidate for the post, former director general of Israel Railways Amos Uzani.
