Zim Asia, which was carring electronic goods, construction materials and textiles, msnnsged to escape the pirates during a voyage on the Indian Ocean toward the Gulf of Aden

Zim container vessel, TEU 3,834- Zim Asia (IMO 9113654, DWT (Deadweight) 45,850 tons,1996 built), operated by ZimIntegrated Shipping Services Ltd managed to escape last Sunday morning pirates' attempt to seize the vessel during a voyage on the Indian Ocean toward the Gulf of Aden.

The pirates' boat tried to approach the container vessel which was carrying a cargo of electronic goods, construction materials, textiles and other products.

Upon seeing the pirates, the Israeli ship sped up and after two hours managed to avoid them.
In March 2010, Somalia pirates attempted to seize Zim ship "Africa Star" in the same area. Israeli security guards aboard the Africa Star fended off two boats of Somali pirates 550 kilometers off the coast on its route from Mombasa, Kenya, to Djibouti.

Zim officials have confirmed the matter.
