Sources in the Israeli shipping community said last week that Zim Integrated Shipping Services was about to announce its entry into the break bulk shipping service to Israel from ports in the Far East.

With the recent increase in containerized cargo freight rates it has become economically viable to consider importing cargo in break bulk rather than in container. Sources closed to Zim said that the market for break bulk service is gradually getting more attractive and the company will have to charter a dwt 20,000 – 30 000 dwt ship.
Zim currently operates three break bulk services : ZOC which connects Ashdod with the British port of Sheerness, NEB connecting Ashdod with North European ports and CAR connecting the ort of Eilat with Far Eastern ports servicing mainly the import of motorvehicles to Israel.
Zim has so far denied the rumors.
