Mr. Reuven Zuck, director general of the shipping agency "Allalouf", was elected last week as the new president of the Chamber of Shipping replacing Mr. Nahum Ganzarsky.

Zuck's elections to the presidency took place during the 73rd annual assembly of the chamber in which ten new board members were also elected.

The Israeli Chamber of Shipping is an association representing maritime shipping entities operating in Israel, and playing an important role in the Israeli maritime transport, trade and tourism industries. The Chamber is proactive in maritime trade to and from Israel, and in improving the level of service at the ports.

In his inaugural address Zuck noted the challenges facing the new board members among which: ship agents licensing, port tariff reform, ship entry procedure, customs etc. These issues and others will have to be dealt with by the new board.

Zuck emphasized the fact that the members of the chamber of shipping have, over the years, accumulated vast amount of knowledge on port matters and therefore must be consulted before any government decision is taken.

He also pointed out that the strength of the chamber can only be achieved through unity and understanding of the peculiar needs of the small and medium size ship agents. He promised that his presidency will be characterized by taking into account the needs of all ship-agents prior and during negotiations with either the ports and or government.
