El Al to operate direct flight to Brazil

According to EL AL CEO a direct flight to Sao Paulo is part of the airline's plan to expand its services in order to meet the needs of both the business and touristic sectors

Israeli airline El Al plans to operate three or four direct weekly flights from Tel Aviv to Sדo Paulo from April 2009.

In a statement issued by the company last Monday the company said it will also offer connecting flights to a number of destinations in South America, including Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and other cities in Brazil. Sדo Paulo will be the first new destination for the company in 10 years.

The flight from Tel Aviv to Sao Paolo takes about 14-and-a-half-hours. El Al plans to operate the flight on a Boeing 777.

The company added that details such as frequency of flights and prices will be formulated in the coming month and its plans are conditional upon receiving regulatory approvals.

El Al CEO Haim Romano said that the decision to introduce a direct flight to Sao Paulo is part of the airline's plan to expand its services in order to meet the needs of both the business and touristic sectors.

Israel is an important destination for Brazilians tourists embarking on religious trips. The new flights should respond to that demand as well as the needs of the Jewish colony in Brazil.
Airport security with El Al is one of the most rigorous in the entire world. The new flight will inevitably mean additional security measures at Guarulhos airport.
